Comment

Testons from early in Leopold's reign are rare because they were melted or re-struck in later coinages. The value of the teston in this emission was set by an ordonance of October 20, 1701.

Varieties:
A variety with small crosses of Lorraine flanking the crown reverse is known (Flon 12, p.866 , and mentioned in deSaulcy, p. 219)

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Standard circulation coin Teston - Leopold I (oval shield, cartouche) 1701-1704 from Duchy of Lorraine (French States) made of Silver weighing 8.6 g is that it was minted during the reign of Leopold I, who was the Duke of Lorraine from 1690 until his death in 1704. During his reign, he sought to modernize the duchy's economy and military, and the minting of this coin was likely part of those efforts.
