Comment

Some sources claim that the countermark 'SM' does not exist as it is actually the 'STM' countermark where the 'T' has worn off.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Cayenne-Stuiver coin is that it was issued during a brief period of French rule over Sint Maarten, which lasted from 1810 to 1816. During this time, the French government introduced a new currency system, which included the Stuiver coin, to replace the previously used Dutch currency. The Cayenne-Stuiver coin was minted in 1820, and it features a countermark with the letters "C20" and "SM" on either side of a crown, indicating its issuance by the French colonial administration in Cayenne, French Guiana. Despite its historical significance, the coin is relatively rare and highly sought after by collectors today.
