Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Agathokles Stater from Kios (Bithynia) is that it features the first known portrait of a living person on a coin. The obverse side of the coin depicts a realistic representation of Agathokles, the ruler of the city, wearing a crown and a bold expression. This innovative design was a departure from the traditional depiction of gods and goddesses on coins and marked a significant milestone in the development of coinage.
