Interesting fact
The Samian Stater was one of the first coins to feature a portrait of a living person, King Alyattes II, on one side, and a lion on the other. This was a bold move away from the traditional depiction of gods and goddesses on coins, and it signaled the growing power and influence of the Samian rulers.
