Interesting fact
The Naxos Stater was one of the first coins to feature a depiction of a mythological creature, specifically a Griffin, on one of its sides. This Griffin was shown with wings outstretched and a fierce expression, symbolizing the power and strength of the island of Naxos. This design choice was a departure from the more traditional abstract patterns and symbols found on earlier coins, and marked a significant shift towards more representational art on coins.
