Interesting fact
The Tarsos Stater was one of the first coins to feature a portrait of a living person, which was a revolutionary design choice at the time. The coin features a portrait of the Persian satrap (governor) of Cilicia, Datames, who ruled the region from 425 BC to 400 BC. This was a departure from the traditional practice of featuring gods or goddesses on coins, and marked a shift towards more secular designs.
