Interesting fact
The obverse (front) side of the Xanthos Stater features a lion's head, which was a common motif in ancient Lycian coinage. The lion was a symbol of power and strength, and its depiction on the coin may have been meant to convey the idea of the city's military prowess and dominance in the region.
