The Kyzikos Stater was used as a form of currency in ancient Greece and its design has been linked to the mythology of the area. The coin features an image of a lion's head, which is believed to represent the legendary founder of the city, Kyzikus. The lion's head is surrounded by a circular border, and the reverse side of the coin features a depiction of a bull's head.
