Interesting fact
The Gortyna Stater, which was minted in the ancient city of Gortyna on the island of Crete, features a unique design on its reverse side. Instead of the usual depiction of a deity or mythological figure, the coin bears an image of a wild goat, which was a symbol of fertility and prosperity in ancient Crete. This design choice reflects the importance of agriculture and livestock in the ancient Cretan economy.
