Interesting fact
The Mallos Stater is considered one of the earliest coins to feature a portrait of a living person. The obverse side of the coin bears the image of a bearded man, believed to be King Artemidorus of Mallos, who ruled the city-state during the 4th century BC. This makes it a significant piece in the history of numismatics and a fascinating example of early coinage.
