Interesting fact
The Mallos Stater is considered one of the earliest coins to feature a portrait of a living person. The obverse side of the coin bears the image of a bearded man, believed to be the king of Mallos, while the reverse side features a seated goddess and an inscription in ancient Greek. This coinage innovation of featuring a real person's portrait was a significant departure from the earlier coins that featured mythological figures or abstract designs.
