Interesting fact

The Gortyna Stater was used as a form of currency in ancient Crete and features a unique design on its reverse side. Instead of depicting a mythological figure or deity, as was common on ancient Greek coins, the Gortyna Stater features a representation of a wild goat, which was a symbol of the island's rich agricultural resources. This design choice highlights the importance of agriculture and trade in the ancient Cretan economy.
