Comment

Until 1560, the reign of John is calm and prosperous, the city is fortified and develops. He is also the younger brother of the powerful Robert III of Sedan thanks to whose protection he claimed the right to coinage. The coinage consist of snaphaen and half-snaphaen imitated from similar coins from Liège and Gelderland.

Interesting fact

The Snaphaen coin was used as a form of currency in the Lordship of Jametz, which was a small territory in the French States. Despite its small size, the coin was made of silver, which was a valuable and durable material at the time. This suggests that the Lordship of Jametz was a relatively wealthy and prosperous region, able to afford the use of silver in its currency.
