Comment

Twelve examples are known, with only three being in private collections.

There has been much controversy on dating Populonian coins, and as such, the date ranges my vary per source.

The second Turms series was struck using Populonia's third silver standard, with all being set at unrelated weights to the proceeding two standard.

Interesting fact

The Silver 5 Asses coin from Populonia (Etruria) features a unique design on its reverse side, depicting a facing left portrait of Turms, the Etruscan god of the underworld. This design is a distinct departure from the more common depictions of deities in Etruscan art, which typically show the gods in profile or from a 3/4 view. The facing left portrait of Turms on this coin may indicate that it was specifically designed to be easily distinguishable from other coins in circulation at the time.
