Comment
There has been much controversy on dating Populonian coins, and as such, the date ranges my vary per source. The second Gorgoneion series was struck using Populonia's fourth silver standard, which is equal to the third silver standard except with the weights of all denomination being halved.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a blank Gorgoneion, which is a rare variation in the Gorgoneion series II. The Gorgoneion is a symbol of the Gorgon Medusa, and it was often used on ancient Greek coins as a symbol of protection and to ward off evil. The fact that this coin has a blank Gorgoneion makes it a unique and interesting piece of history.
