Comment

This example is seemingly unique.

There has been much controversy on dating Populonian coins, and as such, the date ranges my vary per source.

The second Apulu series was struck using Populonia's fourth silver standard, which is equal to the third silver standard except with the weights of all denomination being halved.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Silver 2½ Asses coin from Populonia (Etruria) is that it features a unique blend of Etruscan and Roman influences in its design. The coin's obverse side bears the image of a lion, which was a common motif in Etruscan art, while the reverse side features the Roman goddess Roma, indicating the coin's use in the Roman Empire. This blending of cultural influences reflects the complex history of the region and the coin's place in the broader context of the ancient Mediterranean world.
