Interesting fact
The Schilling coin was minted during the reign of Johann Konrad II von Reinach-Hirzbach, who was the Prince-Bishop of Basel from 1716 to 1727. During his reign, he implemented several economic reforms, including the introduction of a new currency system, which included the Schilling coin. This coin was made of Billon, a type of alloy that consists of a mixture of copper, silver, and other metals, and it weighed 1.18 grams. Despite its small weight, the coin was widely used in the Bishopric of Basel and surrounding regions, and it remained in circulation for many years after its introduction.
