Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique blend of Christian and pagan imagery. The obverse (front) side of the coin depicts Æthelred I, the king of Northumbria, with a crown and a scepter, while the reverse (back) side features a stylized cross with four pelicans, which symbolize the four evangelists. This blending of religious symbols reflects the cultural and religious influences of the time, as Christianity was still a relatively new religion in Northumbria during the 8th century.
