Irish Free State (1922–1937) became an independent state (from the United Kingdom) and was established in 1922 as a Dominion within the British Empire.

It was renamed Ireland in 1937, but the Republic of Ireland did not come into existence until 18 April 1949.

Between 1937 & 1949, Ireland was both a Dominion & a member of the British Commonwealth - as King George VI was Ireland's head of state as King of Ireland.

The Reul / 6 Pingine coin from Ireland, made of Nickel and weighing 4.54g, was designed by the Irish artist and sculptor, Oliver Sheppard. Sheppard was known for his work on various coins and medals, and his design for this coin features a depiction of a traditional Irish harp on one side, and the Irish national emblem, the shamrock, on the other. This coin was minted between 1928 and 1935 and was used as a standard circulation coin in Ireland during that time.
