The Quinzain - Gaston coin was minted during a time of great turmoil in France, known as the Fronde, which was a series of civil wars that lasted from 1648 to 1653. Despite the political instability, the coinage of the Principality of Dombes continued to be minted, and the Quinzain - Gaston coin is a rare surviving example of this era.
