Comment

Coin 1159b is a recant discovery. Could it be a coincidental overstrike on this Jannaeus coin or does is suggest that this is a Jannaeus coin that was overstruck on another Jannaeus coin as 1149?
These appear in many varieties. The highly stylized letters are surprisingly readable, but there are often errors. Note the abbreviated spelling of the kings's name as on the overstruck issue of Jannaeus, No. 1149.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Prutah coin featuring Salome Alexandra is that it was issued during a time of great political turmoil in Judea. Salome Alexandra, who was the wife of King Alexander Jannaeus, took on the role of regent for her sons, John Hyrcanus II and Aristobulus II, after her husband's death in 76 BC. However, her rule was contested by the Pharisees, who opposed her attempts to assert her authority over the Jewish people. This coin, which was issued during her regency, may have been used as a tool to promote her image and legitimacy as a ruler, despite the opposition she faced.
