Comment

The dies for this coin were either made by the same die cutter, or at leased the same workshop of Hyrcanus I Nos. 1135, 1137, which sugests that this was the earlier of the Aristobulus types, and puts the coin immediately after the coins of JHyrcanus I.

Interesting fact

The Prutah coin of Judah Aristobulus I (104 BC) was the first coin to feature an image of a Jewish king. It depicts a portrait of Aristobulus I wearing a crown and a long beard, surrounded by the Hebrew inscription "Yehonatan the King" (יהונתן המלך). This coin was a significant departure from earlier Jewish coins, which had typically featured symbols or abstract designs, and marked a new era in Jewish coinage.
