Interesting fact
The Prutah coin of John Hyrcanus I is notable for its unique design, which features a depiction of a lily on one side and an inscription in Hebrew on the other. The lily symbolized purity and was a common motif in ancient Judean art and architecture. The inscription on the coin reads "Yehonatan the High Priest" in Hebrew, indicating that John Hyrcanus I held the office of High Priest in addition to being the ruler of Judea. This combination of religious and political authority was a hallmark of the Hasmonean dynasty, which John Hyrcanus I founded.
