Interesting fact
The Półgrosz koronny coin featuring Stanisław August Poniatowski (Warszawa) 1775-1792 from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was made of copper, but it was also one of the first coins in Europe to feature a portrait of a monarch on one side and a coat of arms on the other. This design was a departure from the traditional method of featuring an image of a saint or a religious symbol on one side and the monarch's name or initials on the other. This change in design was a sign of the growing influence of Enlightenment ideas and the increasing importance of the monarchy in Polish society at the time.
