After falling in battle Eric Bloodaxe is greeted by Odin at the entrance to Valhalla. From the ‘Eiríksmál’, a skadlic pangeryic composed for Eric’s widow, Grunnhild.
Interesting fact
The Viking Kingdom of York, where this coin was minted, was a short-lived kingdom that was established by the Viking leader Eric Blood-Axe in the 10th century. Despite its brief existence, the kingdom played a significant role in the history of the British Isles and Frisia.
