Comment

Anglo-Saxon Middle Period (c.780-973), Kings of All England (924-1158), Eadmund (939-946).
Crownbed bust type, Uncertain mint (East Anglia?); Clac, moneyer.

Eadmund was a half brother of Aethelstan. At the start of his reign he lost the kingdom of York and faced renewed Viking incursion into North East England; however, by the end of his reign he had regained control of those territories.

Interesting fact

The Eadmund Penny, also known as the "Crowned Bust Penny," was minted during the reign of King Eadmund (939-946) and features a unique design on its obverse side. Instead of the traditional portrait of the king, the coin features a crowned bust of Eadmund, surrounded by the inscription "EADMUND REX." This design was a departure from the usual depiction of the king on coins and was likely meant to emphasize Eadmund's status as a powerful and authoritative ruler.
