Comment

Eadberht Praen ‘the priest’ assumed power in Kent after the death of Offa in 796. According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, Eadberht was captured, blinded and had his hands cut off when Coenwulf of Mercia reconquered Kent in 798.

Interesting fact

The Eadberht Praen penny, issued during the reign of Eadberht I of Kent (796-798), is considered one of the rarest and most valuable coins in the history of numismatics. It is believed that only about 10 of these coins exist today, making them highly sought after by collectors and historians.
