Comment

Anglo-Saxon Middle Period (c.780-973), Anglo-Viking Coinages (c.885-954), Danish East Anglia (c.885-915)

St Edmund Memorial coinage (this type struck c.905-915).

The legend 'BOTECN' stands for the moneyer Bosecin, however this is a late issue and the inscription is a copy in homage to that moneyer who struck the original King Edmund pennies.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Standard circulation coin Penny anonymous (St. Edmund Memorial coinage) (885-915) from Kingdom of East Anglia (Kingdoms of British Isles and Frisia) made of Silver weighing 1.45 g is that it features a unique design, with a crowned bust of St. Edmund on the obverse (front) side, and a cross fleury on the reverse (back) side. This design was specifically created to commemorate St. Edmund, the patron saint of East Anglia, and was used on coins minted during the reign of King Alfred the Great.
