Richard the Lionheart was the second son of Henry II Plantagenet and Eleanor of Aquitaine. He became Duke of Aquitaine in 1169. In 1175, with the help of Louis VII of France, he rebelled with his brothers against their father. He became heir to the kingdom after the death of his brother Henry in 1183, succeeded his father in 1189 and spent the ten years of his reign fighting in the Holy Land and France.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Standard circulation coin Obol - Richard I (Type 1) ND (1169-1189) from Duchy of Aquitaine (French States) made of Billon weighing 0.45 g is that it features a unique blend of Christian and Islamic influences in its design.
