Grierson and Travaini propose the second half of the 13th century for the Novara deanari and obol.
Interesting fact
The Obol coin from the Commune of Novara was used as a form of payment for small transactions, such as buying bread or other everyday goods. It was a very small denomination coin, with a value of 1/12 of a Lira, which was the main currency used in the Italian States at the time. Despite its small value, the Obol was an important part of the local economy, as it allowed people to purchase necessities without having to use larger denomination coins.
