Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Obol coin of Evagoras II from Salamis of Cyprus is that it features a unique blend of Greek and Cypriot elements in its design. The obverse side of the coin bears the image of a lion's head, which is a common motif in ancient Cypriot coinage, while the reverse side features a Greek inscription reading "ΣΑΛΑΜΙΝΟΥ ΕΥΑΓΟΡΑ" (Salamis of Evagoras), indicating the coin's origin and the ruler who issued it. This blending of cultural influences reflects the complex history of Cyprus during the Hellenistic period, when it was a Greek colony under the rule of the Persian Empire.
