Interesting fact
The Nummus coin from Luceria (Apulia) was used as a form of currency during the Roman Republic and features the image of a bust of Jupiter, the Roman god of the sky and thunder, on one side, and the image of a dolphin on the other. The use of a dolphin on the coin may have been a nod to the region's maritime history and the importance of the sea in the local economy.
