Interesting fact
The Kopeck coin , which was issued during the reign of Peter I in 1703, was the first coin to feature the image of a Russian ruler. Prior to this, Russian coins had featured the image of the Russian coat of arms, but Peter I's reign marked a shift towards featuring the ruler's image on the currency. This tradition has continued to this day, with the image of the current Russian president or prime minister appearing on many Russian coins.
