Interesting fact
The Kopeck coin , which was issued during the reign of Peter I in 1702, was the first coin to feature the image of a Russian ruler. Prior to this, coins in Russia had featured the image of the Tsar's patron saint, St. George. This change in design marked a significant shift in the way that the Russian monarchy was represented on coinage, and paved the way for future rulers to be depicted on coins.
