Comment
Jitals with Tye #208-225 have a horse and rider on the obverse and an iconoclastic reverse. Tye notes the following concerning this series (p. 67):
“Amongst the jitals we see a great variety of the horseman/legend types, stuck at Taliqan, Shafurqan, Dawar, Sibi, Takinabad, Bust, and Herat (208-225). All these, if we were to apply our current hypothesis in a simplistic form, would be counted as possible branches of some sort of ‘Band of Taliqan’. Any reasonable commentator would be forced to admit that the real situation was doubtless more complex.”
The classification of many of the jitals in this series are based on just a few specimens, thus variations in the design are to be expected.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was issued during the reign of Muhammad II of Khwarezm, who was known for his military campaigns and territorial expansion, which led to the Khwarezmian Empire becoming one of the largest empires in the Islamic world at that time.
