Phanes remains elusive in identification; possibly the accomplished mercenary mentioned by Herodotus or linked to the primordial deity associated with light. Alternatively, the coins could be tied to a noteworthy citizen of Ephesus, as suggested by Barclay V. Head, dismissing the likelihood of other associations.

Interesting fact

The Hemihekte coin features a unique combination of two animal symbols on its obverse side - a lion's head and a bull's head, which are depicted facing each other.
