Interesting fact
The Hekte coin was used as a form of currency in the ancient Greek city-state of Mytilene on the island of Lesbos during the 5th century BC. Despite being made of electrum, a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver, the Hekte coin was not considered a high-denomination coin at the time. In fact, it was one of the lowest denominations in use in Mytilene, with a value equivalent to about 1/60th of a standard gold stater. Despite its relatively low value, the Hekte coin was still widely used in everyday transactions and played an important role in the economy of Mytilene during that time.
