Interesting fact
The Hekte coin from Kyzikos (Mysia) was used as a form of currency in the 5th century BCE and had a unique design. One side of the coin features a lion's head, while the other side features a wheel with eight spokes. This design was meant to symbolize the connection between the city and its agricultural past, as well as its commitment to trade and commerce. The use of electrum, a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver, added to the coin's value and durability. Despite its small weight, the Hekte coin played an important role in the economy of the region and remains a valuable artifact for historians and collectors today.
