Comment
Anglo-Saxon Middle Period (c.780-973), Kings of All England (924-1158), Eadred (946-955).Two line type halfpenny, Uncertain southern mint; Wigelm, moneyer. (similar to Sp#1113)
Eadred was another of the sons of Edward the Elder. He faced renewed Viking attempts to recover York whose last king, Eric Bloodaxe, he drove out in 954 to finally secure Norhumbria for the English.
Interesting fact
The Halfpenny - Eadred (Two line type) ND (946-955) coin was minted during the reign of King Eadred, who ruled England from 946 to 955. This coin is notable for its unique design, which features two lines of text on the obverse (front) side, rather than the traditional single line of text. The first line reads "EADRED REX" (Eadred King), while the second line reads "NORTHumbria" (Northumbria). This design was used to indicate that the coin was minted in Northumbria, a region in northern England. I hope you find this fact interesting!
