Comment
Previously attributed to Frederick II Hohenstaufen, this type was more recently assigned by Day, et al. in MEC XII (2006) to Ezzelino da Romano, podestà of Verona, who switched allegiances from the Lombard League to Frederick during the guelph-ghibbeline conflict, and also ruled over Vicenza and Padua.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Grosso coin from Verona is that it features an image of Ezzelino da Romano, a powerful medieval lord who ruled over the city in the 13th century. Despite being a relatively small coin, it has a rich history and is a valuable piece for collectors of ancient coins.
