Comment

It is not known with certainty when and where the ducat was minted and by who. It is usually attributed to either king Tvrtko I (1353 - 1377), king Stephen Thomas (1443 - 1461), or king Stephen II (1461 - 1463).

Only one has been found in 1935 by farmers. It was lost again in 1937, only to reappear on an auction in Zagreb in 1995, where it was sold to an unknown buyer.

It is mentioned in the Venetian archives as ducatos domini regis Bosne magnos quatordecim - the great quadruple ducat of the Bosnian king.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Great Bosnian ducat ND from Kingdom of Bosnia (Bosnia and Herzegovina) made of Gold weighing 14.05g is that it was used as a means of payment and exchange during the medieval period in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was also used as a symbol of wealth and power, and its value was equivalent to 100 silver denars.
