Comment
This Gallic confederation brings together four tribes from the same Celtic branch, which arrived in the middle of the 4th century BC. Among them, the Diablites are deployed in the Mayenne valley. Their rare coinage derives from those of their powerful neighbors and cousins, the Cenomanni (see link below). Only the presence of an hippocampus on the reverse makes it easy to distinguish them.Interesting fact
The Aulerci Diablites coin features a unique design element - a hippocampus, a mythical creature that is half horse, half fish. This symbolized the tribe's connection to the sea and their maritime traditions.
