The legend on the reverse (FLORENVS EPI METENSIS) tells us that this anonymous gold florin is indeed an issue of the Bishop of Metz. There are three varieties, one of which has Robert of Lenoncourt's engrailed cross shield on the reverse, which leaves no doubt as to its attribution.
