Comment
"1876 AE fals, struck as vassal of the Mongols, al-Mawsil 656-657 (SS72)
S [Scarce]
This is one of the earliest types to have inscriptions in Persian as well as Arabic, the former padshah-e ruy-i zamin, “emperor over the face of the earth”, likely a title of Chinese origin. The type is often found overstruck, especially on #1874.1."
Issued by Badr ad-Din Lu'Lu of the Lu'lu'id Dynasty in Mawsil, citing Mongke as overlord. It is widely considered an Ilkhan issue as the Mongols under Mongke invaded Mawsil in 656 AH.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it was issued during the reign of Hulagu Khan, the founder of the Ilkhanate Empire, who was also a grandson of Genghis Khan.
