The Dupondius or As coin featuring Lucius Aelius was part of a series of coins issued during his reign as Emperor Hadrian's adopted son and successor. This series was known as the "ADOPTIVI" series and included coins featuring several of Hadrian's adopted sons, including Lucius Aelius. The coin's design features Lucius Aelius' bust on the obverse (front) side, and a depiction of Pannonia, the Roman province where the coin was minted, on the reverse (back) side. The coin's bronze composition was a common material used for Roman coins during this time period.
