Interesting fact

The Duit coin from the Province of Gelderland (Dutch Republic) was made of copper, which was a common material for coins at that time. However, what's interesting is that the coin was designed with a unique feature - it had a square hole in the center, which was known as a "knot" or "nodule." This feature was added to prevent the coin from being counterfeited, as it was difficult to replicate the square hole without advanced machinery. This feature also made the coin easily recognizable and helped to prevent confusion with other coins in circulation.
