This coin was part of a series commissioned by Ercole I in Ferrara and Reggio, displaying mythological scenes from the life of his namesake, Heracles/Hercules. In this one, we see Hercules vanquishing the giant Antaeus by suspending him in the air, sapping him of the strength he possessed only by having contact with the earth
