Comment
Delmonte mentions the example shown in the photos. Fewer than three known. This type was part of Philip's short -lived 3d emission, authorized by an ordonance of 20 April, 1487, which specified greatly exaggerated values of certain types, like this one specified at a value of 6 silver reals, or 96 groats (de Witte, Volume II, p. 74).
Unlike most of Philip's coins which were struck in multiple parts of the Low Countries, this type appears to have only been struck in Holland.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Ducat coin is that it was minted during a time of great change and political upheaval in the Burgundian Netherlands. Philip the Handsome, who was the regent of the region at the time, was instrumental in introducing a new currency system, which included the Ducat coin, to replace the old system of reckoning with florins and groats. This change was significant because it helped to simplify trade and commerce in the region, and it also marked a shift towards a more centralized and standardized system of currency. Additionally, the fact that the coin was made of gold (.992) and weighed 3.68g, suggests that it was a valuable and highly sought-after coin during its time.
