Interesting fact
The Drachm coin from Elaia (Aeolis) was used as a form of currency in ancient Greece and its design was inspired by the mythical creature, the Griffin. The obverse side of the coin features the head of a Griffin, while the reverse side features the image of a Lion, which was a symbol of the city of Elaia. This coin was used for everyday transactions and was also used as a form of payment for mercenaries and soldiers.
