Comment
According to Linder, Explorations in Ottoman Pre-History (2007, chapter 4), the Ilkhan Ghazan permitted a large number of Anatolian local rulers to mint coins in his name in the Islamic year 699, equating to 1299/1300 in the Christian calendar. Having faced a major rebellion, allowing local rulers to mint coins in his name was a way to ensure their loyalty whilst also recognising their local authorities.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features an image of Ghazan Mahmud Khan, who was a Mongol emperor of the Ilkhanate, on horseback, with his name written in both Mongolian and Persian scripts. This coin was minted during his reign, which lasted from 1295 to 1304, and it highlights the blending of Mongolian and Islamic cultures that occurred during this period.
